  Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!

  we had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.

  he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".

  i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

  Blondie's post above quoting a Watchtower from 1993 shows they've already made this claim a long time ago. Maybe the WTS is just "bumping" their thread.

  Getting my first tattoo

  well on wednesday i am going to be getting my first tattoo.

  i have had this particular piece of art that i have wanted for years but was too afraid to put it to skin as it will require a great amount of detail.

  but i finally decided to go for it.

  The baby boomers. I'm in my 60s and don't think even the most artistic of tattoos would enhance the appearance of people my age (not much does). I'm sure there are exceptions, of course.

  From the moment I first thought about leaving the WTS to the moment I actually did spanned 3 years. Like you, I hesitated to hurt my family, and I was frightened of what my life would be like without them. Each month I delayed saw an increase in my misery. The gulf between the life I was living (a sham dub) and the life I wanted to live caused me more anguish than actually making the break.

  I finally did break away, causing my dub mom to shed many tears, as she believed I was lost to her. Thirty-four years later, we still visit and talk with each other. She doesn't talk much about the WTS any more. I suspect she has developed doubts over the years. I don't follow up with it because she's elderly and the dubs are the only "friends" she has left.

  Why hang suspended between what is and what could be? I've been there -- it's a terrible place.

  I'm of the generation that does not do tattoos. However, last year I put a fake tattoo of a parrot (shocker!) on my ankle and went to visit my dub mom. She saw it within minutes of my arrival and reacted with horror (but not disbelief, as I'm a degenerate apostate). She wouldn't believe me when I told her it was fake and actually had to wash it off before she was convinced.

  If this is true (I don't doubt you, Searcher, but your DO may have gotten it wrong), it's only one more small step for the governing body to claim they ARE the Christ, and the time of the end starts this year.

  They'll have given themselves much more wiggle room to make bogus predictions with absolute authority for many years to come.

  it's the faithful and discreet slave that directs the governing body when they come together to change or add a new doctrine???

  how did they come up with this one when it's always been the holy spirit doing the directing or is every word in the bible going to have a new job description meaning???????????????

  The gb does a high-wire act with the term "holy spirit." They claim to be "guided" by it, but they also claim they are not "prophets," which would imply direct communication with the holy spirit.

  By claiming guidance rather than direct inspiration, they have a tiny bit of wiggle room when their predictions fail. They're not prophets, so their "interpretation" can be flawed, thus allowing "new light" to repair their disaster du jour.

  So what good is the holy spirit? For the WTS, it's only as good as they need it to be.

  the law would be that each mother and father must be loving toward their children.

  A small percentage of every human population is born with sociopathic tendencies. A sociopath has no conscience, is incapable of love, and craves power. Good parenting and therapy may allow some to grow up to be "high-functioning" sociopaths, who lead relatively normal lives without harming others. Most, however, with or without good parenting, become career criminals. A very interesting finding is that nearly all cult leaders are sociopaths.

  We're not born tabula rasa. Our genetic code starts at conception and is modified by the environment as we grow. Good parenting would make a huge difference, but it's not the single "law" that would create a better society.
